Cherry Hills Heights Water & Sanitation District (CHHWSD) has a Neighborhood Watch Program under the auspices of the Arapahoe County Sheriff's Department in order to deter crime and increase safety.
The Neighborhood Watch is an email-based communication system focused on neighborhood awareness for safety, security, and other matters.
If you have a safety situation (trespassing, break-in, suspicious cars or people near your home, etc.), we ask that once you have called the police or 911, you contact our neighborhood watch volunteer (Nancy Ashworth) in order to keep us all advised of these incidents and to alert others.

- What is a Neighborhood Watch?

A Neighborhood Watch is:
- Citizens and the Sheriff's Office working in partnership to reduce crime and improve the quality of life in our neighborhood.
- A cohesive body of citizens addressing issues that concern the entire community.
- Neighbors getting to know each other, taking the time to care about each other and working in a program of mutual assistance.
- What do I do as part of the CHHWSD Neighborhood Watch?

Each participating neighbor keeps and eye out and reports incidents following the steps below. Participating neighbors receive periodic emails containing news of incidents in the neighborhood.
- Document suspicious behavior such as people looking in mailboxes, cars, or windows.
- Make a note of gender and ethnicity, height and weight, hair color clothes, car type and color, and if possible, license plate number.
- Try to take a photo with your cell phone, but don't put yourself in danger to do so.

Many burglaries remain unsolved mainly due to poor documentation of the stolen property.
- Retain and document the serial numbers of all electronic equipment and keep these records in a safe place where they may be accessed quickly in the event of a robbery.
- Photograph other valuables, such as jewelry, which do not have serial numbers.
- Car Safety

Arapahoe County's main crime problem is theft of cars and the property inside of them.
- Always lock your car, even in the garage.
- Avoid parking cars on the street.
- Do not leave anything in your car, especially not your keys.
- Consider removing your registration (which contains your home address) and keep it in your wallet.
- Remove your garage door opener (especially if your car is parked outside) and keep it in the house or with you.
- Home Safety

At a minimum, make sure your address is visible from the street, including at night. Make sure your address is visible on your mailbox. Both of these precautions will help emergency personnel find your home quickly.
- Lock your doors and get to know your neighbors.
- Let a neighbor know when you will be out of town.
- Have your mail and newspapers collected by a neighbor.
- Set your lights on timers to go off in different rooms and at different times when you are away.
- Keep garage key pads clean and change your code regularly.
- Avoiding Mail Theft

- Take your outgoing mail to the post office or a drop box instead of leaving it in your mailbox.
- If you leave outgoing mail in your mailbox, do not use the red flag (mail carriers will check your box for outgoing mail regardless).
- Arapahoe County Risk Assessment

As part of the CHHWSD Neighborhood Watch program, Arapahoe County will perform a risk assessment of your home. The Sheriff's Department also offers a risk assessment program in which a deputy will come do an inspection of your home and offer crime prevention tips.
